At the rate this is going, it’s starting to look like every question CNN chose for last night’s GOP-YouTube debate came from someone with an anti-Republican ax to grind.

One of the tags for this groin-kick to common decency is “News of the Day.” Which is true if the day we’re talking about is about a month ago — here’s the late October news story the strip references.

UPDATE on 10/25/07 at 9:00pm: Took this one down for a bit after it was posted yesterday — wasn’t sure if it was appropriate to be making reference to the wildfires given all the homes people lost in California, and that the fires are still burning. Especially since the strip uncharitably plays on the assumption that the Left will default to old favorites (e.g., environmental neopaganism and conspiracy theories) in the face of tragedy.
On the other hand, our Democrat masters have decided it’s okay to use the fires to grind their favorite axes. (See Harry Reid on the global warming root cause of the fire here; Barbara Boxer on how Iraq damages our ability fight fires here; some guy claiming to be California’s Democrat Lt. Governor saying a Bush visit will hurt firefighting efforts here.) So has the MSM (CNN using the fires to push their “Planet in Peril” series here, but also told not to come off as too shrill on global warming). So I guess it isn’t too soon after all.
Post-Katrina, we all know the script. If the sensationalism is blunted this time around — and the inevitable political and economic concessions that would follow — it’s only because it’ll be harder for the MSM to get away with it this time.
